OVERVIEW
TRIP 591
is a zero-credit course providing insight into the special concerns
of the LxC classroom. This semester, I've put particular emphasis
on common issues confronting LRSs. I believe that students learn
by doing, so the seminar is full of hands-on opportunities for
learning about content-based language instruction. We'll have
guest speakers, demonstrations, and round-table discussions.
The structure of TRIP 591 encourages LRSs to be reflective about
their teaching practice and will give LRSs a chance to work
collaboratively, and to solicit feedback from peers as they
plan their 10-week schedule. LRSs will discuss the preparation
of assignments and teaching strategies, create tools to meet
the linguistic needs of students, and join in collaborative
work with other LRSs. LRSs should use the seminar as a forum
for discussing what works and what doesn't work in their various
study groups. Think of TRIP 591 as a discussion course, and
your LxC study group meetings as analogous to "labs." Much of
the communication between meetings is done via E-mail. I expect
LRSs to check their email frequently and to respond in a timely
manner. Note too that we'll dedicate a portion of each meeting
to taking care of administrative tasks related to LxC.
